FINE MOTOR SKILL DEVELOPMENTThe use of manipulatives like beads and blocks to cutting, pasting, coloring, and finger painting in craft projects are some of the activities used to help children acquire and develop the fine motor skills needed for writing. GROSS MOTOR SKILL DEVELOPMENTBody awareness, balance, and coordination are the goals with children participating in a range of activities that include skipping, hopping, throwing, catching, climbing, and riding. Learning how to use the school's toys, equipment, and playground safely is another important part of these activities. BATHROOM BREAK,SNACKBathroom breaks teach the importance of personal hygiene while strengthening skills as fastening buttons, zippers, and other clothing. Helping serve classmates the daily school provided snack reinforces the children's social development and etiquette. |
FREE PLAYSharing and taking turns are two of the main objectives of this important part of the day through both parallel and cooperative play. The children choose their favorite activities ranging from simple activities like building with blocks and other manipulatives to educational exercises on the computer (4's and older) while simultaneously learning to communicate with both adults and peers. Decision making skills are also emphasized during play time. CIRCLE TIME/STORYTIMEEach day includes circle time devoted to the goals of language development and verbal expression. Children develop listening skills and new vocabulary through stories and poems while they learn to follow directions as they participate in group activities. |
